making a difference
Project Moratuwa

"I was hungry and you gave Me something to eat;  I was thirsty and you gave Me something to drink;
I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you took care of Me.
Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine,  ... you did for Me."

Extract from Matthew 25:35-40

Moratumulla Day Care Centre, was established in 1979, and opperates out of the Moratumulla Methodist Church, Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. During the past 31 years, it has carried out its mission of providing the education, food, medical facilities and care for the children belonging to families primarily living in a slum area called Samarakoon Estate in Moratuwa.

In some cases, the breadwinners of the family are drug addicts. There are children whose parents have abandoned them and left them with grandparents who have taken the responsibility of looking after the children but are struggling to provide for them.

In the year of establishment, 93 children were admitted and so far around 4,400 children have been benefited from this Centre.
Unfortunately numbers are limited and so the most deserving children are selected, irrespective of their religion or race, by panel interview followed by inspection of the actual living conditions and environment.
